I built the ISL Converter because friends wanted a lightweight way to practise letters together, even if only one of us knew the signs.

Capturing the alphabet

  • MediaPipe Hands gives me 21 landmarks per frame, which becomes my training vector.
  • I used a small CNN so the model can run alongside the webcam feed without lag.
  • PyTTSx3 reads letters out loud so parents can follow along while we test.

Where it can go

The next iteration will record short phrases and add a feedback screen so learners can compare their hand pose with the example.
